Effects of the conflict
Already at the beginning of the year, I pointed out the risk of a warlike confrontation on the part of Russia in my publication 2022. The unthinkable has happened again. After the COVID pandemic, war is now raging in Europe. Politicians speak of the greatest danger since the end of the Cold War, a nuclear confrontation between the great powers. To duck away and bury one's head in the sand is certainly not the right strategy. 2 weeks ago, our trading system already detected non-logical deviations in the currency rates. We reacted immediately and reduced trading to a minimum and further reduced or hedged the risks of the open positions. Thus, the overall risk is reduced to a minimum. We are constantly on the market and continuously assessing the situation. As soon as we have clarity in the warlike situation again, we will ramp up our trading systems and continue to generate revenues for our customers.
But what does this new situation mean for the markets? The international community will exclude the Russian Federation and its sponsors and supporters from all sectors of the economy. First sanctions have already been imposed and many more will follow. The export of raw materials from Russia will also be heavily sanctioned. Energy prices and agricultural raw materials will continue to rise sharply as a result. We will all feel these strong prices in every area of our consumption. Inflation will continue to rise as well and consumption will decrease significantly. Real wages will not be able to rise equivalently to inflation. Risky investments will lose in price value. So it will be uncomfortable for the vast majority of people. This economic crisis affects everyone in the community and in the global world. However, the major political powers have created mechanisms to cushion and end such economic crises. It takes time, courage and a firm hand.
What is clear is that a new era has begun. War also always means a humanitarian catastrophe that must be resolved as a society. The ball is now in the court of the great democratic politicians to leave the comfort zone and strengthen the community by all means.
Today, I will explain to you the impact of the armed conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on the markets and on our trading system.
